Hello to All of Our Favorite Nantucket Hotel Friends & Guests,
During this difficult time, we are trying to remain positive, looking forward to brighter days. We are wishing that everyone remains healthy and safe.
To help bring some Island-life to those who may be missing the island, we are launching a series of conversations featuring some of our favorite small businesses and organizations on Nantucket. This week’s is just a short stroll away from us.
Nantucket Culinary Center is a wonderful neighbor and a beloved island institution run by the ever wonderful Margolis family. Read on to learn how they ended up on Nantucket, why they started Nantucket Culinary Center, and what sparks their joy of cooking.
What Brought You to Nantucket?
Joy Margolis: We moved to the island in 2005 when Greg took a job with Toppers at the Wauwinet. Some say the island either accepts or rejects you, and we got lucky! Greg established himself in the culinary community at Toppers and Moors Farm, and served as the GM of Met on Main. Meanwhile, I found my passion as a community organizer and event planner for Nantucket Cottage Hospital and the Lighthouse School. In 2013 we co-founded Dinner Parties Nantucket and had several successful seasons in the catering and private dinner business.
Tell Us About How Nantucket Culinary Center Got Started.
Joy Margolis: Nantucket Culinary and The Corner Table Cafe opened in the winter of 2016 in the former Mooney Building, a downtown office space owned by the Town of Nantucket. It had been purchased by reMain Nantucket and designed to serve as a year-round community “third-place” – outside of work and home. We applied With Greg’s enthusiasm for food and community and my love of “knitting the community” together. We couldn’t be happier as we head into Summer 2020.
What’s Your Favorite Part About Running Corner Table & Culinary Center?
Joy Margolis: Just as Greg finds fulfillment cooking and creating menus, I find true joy offering a friendly and generous welcome to all, the true definition of hospitality. The Culinary Center has afforded us unparalleled opportunities to complement work already happening across the island’s culinary, farming, and fishing communities, and attracted world class talent to a new destination for cooking classes, demonstration events, tastings, and lifetime learning.
Thank you, Joy, for the inside scoop! We look forward to sharing a meal at Corner Table soon! For more information, visit the Nantucket Culinary Center & The Corner Table Cafe website.
